Rural Innovation Systems and Networks: Findings from a Study of Ethiopian Smallholders
Summary. Ethiopian smallholder farmers access agricultural knowledge primarily through public sector extension services rather than market or civil society actors. Case studies across ten communities reveal how interactions between smallholders and various sector actors shape innovation processes. The research suggests that government policies emphasizing market access should create greater space for private and civil society participation in smallholder innovation networks to improve rural welfare.
