Recent innovations in fertilization with treated digestate from food waste to recover nutrients for arid agricultural fields
Summary. Researchers developed sustainable fertilizers from biogas plant and brewery waste by treating them with acid mixtures to produce free amino acids. The resulting fertilizers met European regulations and showed 60-100% nutrient bioavailability. Pot trials demonstrated effective nutrient transfer to plants and micronutrient enrichment of plant biomass, offering a renewable alternative to traditional fertilizers for arid agriculture.
