Solar energy, the silver bullet to tackle perennial energy access challenges in Nigeria rural households: A case study

Summary. Solar energy can address Nigeria's rural electricity access challenges. A study of 250 households in Isoko South found that 76.8% use grid electricity with backup generators, while 7.6% have no access. All households expressed willingness to pay for reliable clean energy. A solar system for a one-bedroom apartment costs 2.64 million naira with a 5-year payback period. The authors recommend government subsidies and fiscal policies to reduce upfront costs and expand rural solar adoption.
