Future newspapers as a participatory design tool for Chinese rural service innovation
Summary. This paper presents Future Newspapers, a participatory design method that engages rural Chinese villagers in service innovation. Fifty-seven villagers from diverse backgrounds created fictional 2030 newspaper reports about their village's future. The method successfully enabled non-designers to develop and evaluate service innovation concepts while helping designers communicate with public stakeholders. The approach demonstrates how journalism principles can facilitate inclusive rural revitalization strategies in China.
