Seasonal Climate Prediction and Adaptation Using Indigenous Knowledge Systems in Agriculture Systems in Southern Africa: A Review
Summary. Rural farmers in southern Africa have historically used indigenous knowledge to adapt to climate variability and droughts. However, this traditional knowledge is becoming unreliable as climate change intensifies. The paper argues that integrating indigenous knowledge systems with scientific seasonal forecasts offers the most promising approach to help farmers reduce vulnerability, build resilience, and improve their adaptive capacity to climate shocks.
