A Hybrid System That Integrates Renewable Energy for Groundwater Pumping with Battery Storage, Innovative in Rural Communities
Summary. Researchers designed and tested a hybrid renewable energy system combining solar, wind, and diesel generation with battery storage to pump groundwater in a rural Ecuadorian community. The system achieved 83.7% renewable energy use, cost $0.186 per kilowatt-hour, and reduced CO2 emissions significantly compared to diesel-only alternatives. The model successfully provides reliable water and electricity to isolated areas and can be replicated across Latin America.
