Capacity, Coverage and Power Profile Performance Evaluation of a Novel Rural Broadband Services Exploiting TVWS From High Altitude Platform

Habib M. Hussien, Konstantinos Katzis, Luzango Mfupe, Ephrem T. Bekele · 2022 · IEEE Open Journal of the Computer Society

Summary. This paper evaluates a rural broadband system using TV White Spaces transmitted from high-altitude platforms with phased array antennas. The system covers a 100 km radius area divided into cells of 10.5 km radius. The researchers analyzed coverage, capacity, and power performance, finding the system can achieve maximum channel capacity of 53 Mbps. Results demonstrate the technical feasibility of this approach for delivering broadband to rural areas.
