Scientific Mapping of Renewable Energy in Rural Areas: A Bibliometric Analysis
Summary. This bibliometric analysis of 3,332 renewable energy publications from 1979–2025 maps the research landscape for rural areas. India leads global contributions, followed by China and the United States. Three dominant research clusters emerge: climate change and biomass, rural energy access and electrification, and solar power with hybrid systems. Hybrid renewable systems, digital infrastructure, and decentralized energy alternatives represent growing research areas. The study identifies opportunities for stronger interdisciplinary and cross-border collaboration to advance rural electrification and global energy transition.
